Frosty Flamingo Frozen Cocktails & Ice Cream

Xp Bonaire Feature Story

Bonaire just got a little cooler with the arrival of Frosty Flamingo, a daiquiri and gelato shop that’s as vibrant as the island itself. Located in the South Pier Mall, this charming spot is the brainchild of Sierra Thoron, a young entrepreneur who’s blending her love for fun, community, and great flavors into her first business on Bonaire.

Frosty Flamingo isn’t just another shop—it’s a reflection of Sierra’s journey, creativity, and her dream of creating a space that’s as warm and welcoming as Bonaire.

The Louisiana Connection: Where It All Started

The inspiration for Frosty Flamingo goes back to Sierra’s college days at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, just upriver from New Orleans. “New Orleans is famous for its daiquiri shops,” Sierra says. “They’re everywhere—drive-throughs, bars, places you’d visit after a sporting event or just to grab a drink before heading to the beach. I always thought it was such a fun, unique concept.”

Years later, that idea stuck with her. After graduating, Sierra found herself on Bonaire in 2019, helping her mom set up a rental house. When the pandemic hit, she stayed longer than planned. “I didn’t have a place back home anymore, and I fell in love with the island,” she explains. “Bonaire gave me the chance to really explore who I am and what I wanted to do. It was the perfect place to start something new.”

From Dream to Reality: Frosty Flamingo Comes to Life

Sierra had always wanted to create something of her own, and opening a daiquiri shop felt like the perfect fit. “I knew the timing was right when I found the spot at South Pier Mall,” she says. “It’s a beautiful location, right where the cruise ships dock, and I wanted to create a space that would appeal to both locals and visitors.”

Her vision for Frosty Flamingo was inspired by Bonaire itself. The shop features a vibrant mural with local touches like flamingos, iguanas, wild donkeys, and beachy tiki vibes. It’s a cozy spot with a small seating area, but most customers grab their drinks to-go and enjoy the stunning views nearby.

What’s on the Menu? Daiquiris & Gelato

Frosty Flamingo’s menu is all about fun, flavor, and variety. The shop serves American-style frozen daiquiris made in machines, offering both alcoholic and virgin options. Customers can choose from classic flavors like piña colada, sangria, peach bellini, and lemonade vodka, to name just a few.

If daiquiris aren’t your thing, the shop also offers freshly prepared Italian gelato spun right in front of you. “We have six machines making gelato on the spot,” Sierra explains. “Flavors like pistachio, lemon sorbet, chocolate, and coconut are some of the favorites. Watching it being made adds such a cool touch to the experience.”

Frozen cocktails like margaritas, mojitos, and rum and coke round out the menu, with weekly specials to keep things fresh and exciting.

 A Dream Backed by Community

Starting a business on Bonaire has been a rewarding experience for Sierra. “It took about six months to bring it all together, but the idea had been in the back of my mind for years,” she says. “I’m so grateful for the support I’ve had—it really feels like a team effort, and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing people around me.”

For Sierra, Frosty Flamingo isn’t just about drinks. It’s about creating an atmosphere. “I wanted it to feel fun, bubbly, and positive—like a place where people can come together and enjoy themselves,” she says. “That’s the energy I want to share, and I think it fits perfectly with Bonaire.”

Looking Back and Moving Forward

As Sierra reflects on her journey to opening Frosty Flamingo, one memory from her college days stands out. “During senior year, we voted on ‘Most Likely to…’ categories,” she says with a laugh. “Mine was ‘Most Likely to Move to a Foreign Country and Be with a Foreigner.’ It’s funny looking back now because I have the sash to prove it—and here I am, living that exact life!”

While she’s focused on growing her shop, Sierra says, “I love creating spaces and bringing ideas to life. This is just the beginning—I have so many ideas, and I’m excited to see where they’ll take me.”

Whether you're a local or a visitor, Frosty Flamingo offers a refreshing stop for everyone—where good vibes, great flavors, and the island spirit all come together. Make sure to check it out on your next stop in down town Kralendijk.
