Ambiance & Setting
Located at Corner Kaya Bonaire and Kaya JNE Kraane, Hooked by Sunset has a warm, welcoming feel. Inside, a large bar offers a great selection of beers and wines, catering to both casual drinkers and those looking for a more refined pairing. The restaurant’s ambiance is an international fusion, yet it seamlessly integrates into the Bonairian nightlife, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors.
Outdoor seating is available along the boulevard and Kaya Bonaire, offering diners the choice of cozy indoor seating or an al fresco experience. Although the outdoor space may seem compact at first, once seated, it provides a lively and intimate atmosphere that enhances the overall dining experience.
The Chef’s Choice Experience
The Chef’s Choice menu is a new addition to Hooked by Sunset, personally curated by owner and chef Brandon. This feature will officially launch on Saturday, March 29th, and will be available on a monthly basis on the last Saturday of the month. We were invited for a special preview tasting, which showcased Chef Brandon’s ability to craft a menu that balances simplicity with gourmet creativity while drawing inspiration from all over the globe.

The Culinary Journey
Amuse-bouche: The meal started with a tuna tartare wrapped in rice paper—a fresh, delicate bite that set the stage for what was to come.
First Course: Ceviche Fish Taco, paired with “Is This It” Grüner Veltliner from Hungary. The citrusy brightness of the ceviche was complemented by the crisp acidity of the wine, creating a harmonious combination.
Second Course: Lobster Coconut Bisque with Shrimp Gyoza, served with Luigi Bosca Chardonnay. This was easily one of the highlights of the evening. The bisque was rich and creamy, yet perfectly balanced, with every ingredient complementing the next. The gyoza added a delicate texture that made this dish unforgettable.
Third Course: Beef Tartare with Soy-Cured Egg Yolk, paired with Luigi Bosca Pinot Noir. The soy-cured egg yolk provided an extra layer of umami richness, elevating the tartare to a whole new level. Every bite was flavorful and perfectly seasoned.
Fourth Course: Flat Iron Steak with Millefeuille Potato and Ginger & Rice Wine Jus de Veau, paired with a Sicilian Stemmari Passiata. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, while the layered millefeuille potato added a delightful crispness. The ginger and rice wine jus de veau brought an unexpected yet welcome depth to the dish.
Dessert: Espresso Martini Crème Brûlée—a decadent yet refined way to end the meal. The coffee-infused custard was smooth and creamy, with a caramelized sugar crust that added just the right amount of crunch.
Final Thoughts
Beyond the expertly crafted dishes, what truly sets Hooked by Sunset apart is the way everything—from the presentation to the wine pairings—is carefully considered. Chef Brandon’s culinary expertise is evident in every bite, and his ability to blend flavors from Trinidad, South Africa, Europe and the Caribbean results in a dining experience that feels both familiar and adventurous. Roxanne’s warm and attentive hospitality further enhances the dining experience, making guests feel truly welcome.
